GNMH Director of Deaf Services and Language Access

Job Description

 The Director of Deaf Services and Language Access leads GNMH’s specialized Deaf Services Team and oversees agency-wide language access. The Director manages and coordinates quality patient care services for clients of the Deaf Services Team and is accountable for all professional, administrative, and clinical activities within the department. Across the agency, the Director ensures that clients with limited English proficiency have equitable access to care through coordinated translation and interpretation services. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director supervises the Deaf Services Clinical Team (therapists, case manager, supported employment) and GNMH interpreting staff. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing administrative and clinical supervision to Deaf Services therapists, case managers, and interpreting staff, including treatment planning, crisis response, and clinical supervision toward licensure where applicable
  • Developing and updating program plans, monitoring KPIs, and leading corrective actions in alignment with the NH DHHS/BMHS contract
  • Building and maintaining a strong network of qualified mental health interpreters and ensuring freelance contracting follows best practices in the field
  • Serving as liaison between Deaf Services and other agency departments, and representing the program externally with state agencies, CMHCs, and community organizations
  • Providing education and consultation to staff and area mental health centers on cultural competence and communication with Deaf and hard-of-hearing consumers and their families
  • Evaluating workflows agency-wide to ensure language is never a barrier to access, and conducting periodic accessibility evaluations in coordination with the VP of Quality and Corporate Compliance
  • Advocating for clients and families requiring language services, and serving as an instructional resource across the agency

Key Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or another area of mental health
  • 6 to 8 years of relevant work experience
  • New Hampshire licensed or license-eligible mental health provider
  • Fluency in American Sign Language with the ability to express ideas clearly in ASL and written English
  • In-depth knowledge of Deaf culture

  • Strong collaboration skills, working effectively independently and as part of a team
  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; high-energy, self-motivated, and proactive
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and flexibility in workload and assignments
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
