Liann Osborne Withdraws as Alaska State School for the Deaf Finalist

On Wednesday evening, June 16, the Alaska School for the Deaf Director Finalist, Liann Osborne, informed the AKSD school community that she had decided to withdraw her application for the role. Through the negotiation process, Liann came to learn that if she were to accept the role, it would have an adverse impact on her retirement benefits with her current employer.

“I wish the circumstances were different so I could lead the Alaska School for the Deaf and its wonderful community, staff, students, and Anchorage School District leaders who I had the opportunity to meet throughout the finalist process,” said Liann Osborne. “The AKSD community clearly cares about the success of their students and each other. The next leader of the school will be very fortunate to have this opportunity.”

“We are grateful to Liann for her interest and support of AKSD and its community. The school is now proceeding with interim plans for this school year and will decide when to resume the search for its new permanent director,” said Tarlesha Wayne, Senior Director of Special Education at Anchorage School District Anchorage. “I want to thank the AKSD search committee and our school’s stakeholders for their patience and support for the process. We look forward to another successful school year with an interim leadership plan in place which we will develop and announce as soon as we can.”

The Anchorage School District and Alaska School for the Deaf also wishes to thank Shane Feldman and his company, Innivee Strategies, for building a search process that was well received by the school and its community.
